These past few decades we have been besieged with pictures of skinny super models with haughty looks; and somehow that has become what others think as the “in” thing to do, and to be. I must admit, I have been a victim, too. Nope, I didn’t go into self-starvation and stuffs; but ever since I was in high school, I have felt that I am too fat! Talk about low self-esteem, huh?! But it’s a good thing I have gotten over that! Now I know better.
I’m positive most girls felt the same way at some point in their lives, and who can blame them? Just look at all the fashion magazines and you’ll see what I’m talking about. That’s why I’m glad that there’s Dove Self-Esteem Fund; it’s aim is basically to educate and inspire girls to look at beauty and themselves in a wider view. Not just what you see and read in the magazines.
Sure, we can all be influenced by those who think that girls are only attractive when they are thin, but the thing is, that’s not reality. Some girls are big-boned and not meant to be reedy-thin.
I hope that with Dove’s campaign most girls will be saved from the anguish of growing up thinking that they are not beautiful enough.
